Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.50 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • egg
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.50 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • onion
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp basil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 12 ounces spaghetti
  • Parmesan cheese
  • parsley

Instructions

Meatballs

In a large bowl , combine 1 pound ground beef , 0.50 cup breadcrumbs , grated 0.25 cup Parmesan cheese , 0.25 cup milk , egg , 2 cloves minced garlic , 1 tsp oregano , 1 tsp salt , 0.50 tsp black pepper , and 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley .

Mix until all ingredients are well combined. Shape the mixture into 12 meatballs.

In a large skillet , heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 7 minutes . They don't need to be fully cooked through.

Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.

Sauce

In the same skillet, add 1 tbsp olive oil more. Add onion (finely chopped) and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes .

Add 2 cloves minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Pour in 28 oz can crushed tomatoes . Add 1 tsp basil and 1 tsp oregano . Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Bring the sauce to a simmer.

Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Cover and let simmer for 25 minutes , stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and flavors meld.

Pasta

While meatballs simmer, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 12 ounces spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce. Sprinkle with additional Parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.
